The Department is soliciting applications for the Darlene Wolf Fellowship. This fellowship was established by an alumna of our department who earned her PhD in Spanish (SLATE) and specialized in second language reading research. It is paid over nine months and can be held concurrently with a teaching (or research) assistantship. The award criteria are clearly specified in the bequest:

      (1) Scholarships shall be limited to doctoral students in the Spanish Department in SLATE and such students must be full-time doctoral students at the UIUC for at least one academic year in order to be eligible for the Fellowship.

      (2) Outstanding teaching and academic achievement shall be a consideration in awarding scholarships from the Fellowship Fund.

      (3) Priority shall be given to outstanding candidates specializing in foreign language reading research.  Candidates must be considered outstanding both as students and as teachers.  However, if the choice is between an outstanding student who is not in reading research and a mediocre student in reading research, the scholarship shall be given to the outstanding student.

If you feel that you meet the above criteria and would like to be considered for the Darlene Wolf Fellowship, please submit an up-to-date curriculum vitae, a one-page research statement, and your teaching evaluations (numerical scores only) to Kathy by 4:00 pm on Monday, March 31..
