Biography

I am originally from a suburb of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In high school I had my first real opportunity to be immersed in Spanish when I traveled to Spain with a school group and completed a short home stay. I knew I wanted more of these experiences, and as an undergrad, I studied abroad for a semester in Quito, Ecuador and completed a teaching internship in the small town of Cariacu in the northern highlands near Cayambe. After earning my BA, I spent a year living and working as an English teacher in Santiago de Chile, Chile. Back in the US, I worked as a service coordinator for an early intervention program which provided therapy services to children under age three with developmental delays or disabilities. In this capacity, I was the organization's only contact person for Spanish-speaking families. There, I was able to learn from speech language pathologists and early childhood teachers about first and second language acquisition in the early years. I love learning about the intricacies of language and while my main interest is in Spanish, I am also studying Portuguese and am gaining a basic understanding of German in my free time.
